Future market Turkey: Schuler Group’s press solutions guarantee high quality and productivity in the manufacturing of radiators
Over the past few years, Turkey has established itself as a major producer of heating radiators. According to the Ministry for Foreign Trade, the domestic market for heating and air conditioning technology alone is currently growing at an annual rate of 15 percent. In terms of units, that means an increase in sales of heating units from around 450,000 at present to around 800,000 per year by 2010. Turkey is also experiencing growth in its exports of radiators. The Turkish Ministry for Foreign Trade calculates that radiator exports grew from 226 million US dollars in 2004 to 368 million US dollars in 2006. This impressive growth has been driven by the nationwide development of Turkey’s natural gas infrastructure and strong demand for heating systems in East European states. This increased demand has led to a similar rise in manufacturer investments in modern production equipment. The press manufacturer Schuler has positioned itself on the promising Turkish market with a range of high-performance radiator embossing presses tailored to the needs of local manufacturers.
The radiator embossing presses of Schuler subsidiary Gräbener Pressensysteme boast press forces of 400, 630 and 710 tons. The range is thus ideally suited to the varying needs of Turkish manufacturers, whose output levels start in the five-figure region and extend into the high six-figure region. The technical basis for radiator embossing presses is the knuckle-joint bottom drive, which is specially designed for the needs of radiator production. For example, the presses are equipped with two knuckle-joint systems working in parallel for the exact forming of differently sized radiator plates; the PMK 355 works with one knuckle joint. The movement sequence of a knuckle-joint drive enables almost shock-free impact of the die on the sheet metal and gives the material more time for plastic formation. This results in precisely formed radiator blanks while ensuring high die service life and reduced maintenance costs – thus raising productivity.
The high rigidity of the complete press system ensures reliable integration into the process chain of radiator production. Its design guarantees a high degree of repeat accuracy, even with varying material thicknesses and strengths. After forming, the radiator blanks lie absolutely flat – which aids subsequent welding operations. Thanks to an integrated control architecture and visualization system for all machine components, the line is exceptionally user-friendly. This technology also means that any defects can be remedied quickly and easily. The die mounting area of the lines is designed to accommodate all types of dies: from insertable brackets, mechanical or power driven die-changing brackets to die-changing carts in tandem design – Schuler offers die-changing systems tailored exactly to the specific line.
Extensive range of services and turnkey solutions
The Schuler Group also offers complete press tryout with the intended original dies and coil material as a turnkey solution – including support during production launch and training for operating and maintenance personnel. This saves users time during the launch phase and enables them to start production sooner. Services also include the supply of press safety equipment according to Schuler’s own standard and the EN/DIN or OSHA standards, as well as complete documentation and accessories, such as coil lines, part handling and line encasement.
