American Axle has selected Schuler as "Supplier of the Year 2005"
Once again Schuler was able to impress its customer with outstanding achievement: For its concept and supply of a cold-forming line for the production of drive shafts Schuler was designated as "Supplier of the Year 2005" by American Axle & Manufacturing. The award was made on June 16, 2005 at the company’s headquarters in Detroit. As part of its annual meetings with suppliers, Richard Dauch, co-founder, CEO & President of American Axle & Manufacturing presented the award to Tim McCaughey, President & CEO of Schuler Incorporated USA. Only five out of a total of 3,500 American Axle suppliers received the coveted award this year.Significantly improved production rates
"This installation of the Schuler line, which we started up in April of 2005, allowed us to provide our customer with a significantly improved production rate for drive shafts. I was very pleased to see Schuler recognized for this exceptionally efficient production concept," explained Rudi Schubert, Sales and Product Manager at Schuler Incorporated.The fully automated production system consists of a 5-station, 315-ton hydraulic cold-forming line with tooling. The line was designed to achieve a production rate of 480 parts per hour, thereby exceeding the previously achieved rate of 400 parts per hour. A slide stroke of 1,250 mm (more than 49 inches) permits production of extremely long shafts. In addition, the advanced die change system permits changeovers of the line in only 30 minutes. Monitoring of the line is performed by a centralized control system that includes a press force monitor to automatically stop production in the event of a fault or malfunction.
"Supplier of the Year" for outstanding achievement
American Axle & Manufacturing is one of the largest and best known supplier companies on the American automobile market. Since 1994 the company has presented its "Supplier of the Year Award" for outstanding achievement in the area of manufacturing technology.
