Every coin begins at the edge.
Schuler offers high-performance lines for modern minting facilities. In addition to coin minting presses and blanking lines these also include edge coining and rimming machines. Edge processing is still very important today both in terms of manufacturing technology and aesthetics. Edge rimming provides optimal preparation of the coin blank for the coining process. The markings and burrs left by blanking can be visible even after coining for some of the harder materials. By means of edge rimming the surface is smoothed and the desired raised edge is created. The material distribution is thereby optimized for the coining process and the required coining forces are reduced. Edge lettering or decorating serves both an aesthetic and a security purpose for coins. Independent of the decorative quality, the coin gains a unique, value-added design that makes counterfeiting more difficult and also prepares the blank for the coining process.
